With the decline of the desktop, and rise of the content consumption appliances, I would
argue the desktops remaining will be the new 'workstations'. The low end of
desktop land is likely to be eroded away leaving the more powerful Windows and Mac systems
dominant. And like historic workstations, the hardware is likely to be *relatively* high
end. The OS platforms will be mildly diluted and skinned server software. And they will be
targeted at specialist content creation. Seems analogous to the workstation of old.

I dunno. I'd claim the true workstation is dead. Probably the last was the
HP C8000.
