If you replace the selenium stink-o-matic with a silicon rectifier
(you may want to add a series resistor), you'd be doing what many
repair techs did in the 1960's. IR touted clip-mounted rectifiers as
direct substitutes for seleniums. Not to mention substitutes for
OZ4, 5Y3, 6Z4, etc.
