which can be made every bit as cheap as SAS if the manufacturers want
to do it.
There's a chicken-and-egg problem there. To get FC prices down to where
SAS is, they would have to have comparable unit volumes to SATA, and
that wasn't ever going to happen. SAS is cheaper because it leverages
the high volumes of SATA hardware (e.g., the ASICs used in the drives).
