 No you don't. The Xyplex can't connect to a time server so it started
 at the Unix epoch.

My MAXserver 1640 gets its time using the /time/ protocol rather than
the /network time/ protocol (ntp), so there's a fair chance a 1608
behaves in the same way.
A time protocol server can be enabled - at least on a CentOS machine -
by appropriate configuration of xinetd.
