The 40-pin socket? AFAIK, it's not for a boot ROM. Given that there
are 40-pin sockets on other Qbus CPUs for things like EIS, FIS, etc.,
it must be one of those. I don't have a KDF11A, so I've never worried
about extending the instruction set. Most of my Qbus PDP-11 work has
been with the KDF11 and older (11/03, 11/23...)
