There's no evidence that the problem is the result of mold, fungi, or
other living organisms.
Agreed. I mean, it typically *looks* like some form of living thing, but I
don't think there's ever been any confirmation that it is. In fact, I've
seen numerous screens where the 'spots' are quite far from the screen
edges, so for it to be some kind of critter it would presumably have needed
to be there at the point of manufacture.
