XLR is what I think you're after. When you have low-output mics that
have to traverse 100 feet to the amplifier, induced hum can be a real
problem.
I like the beefiness of XLR--I've used them for power supply (low
voltage DC) connectors. They come in 3, 4, 5 and 6 pin versions.
