Yeah, but I was referring more towards the fact that you don't have to
tell the phone company about every little thing you're doing with your
line. I don't know how it is these days, but in the past you couldn't add
a phone to your house in the UK without having to pay an additional charge
or tax?
Consumer product requirements aside, you can hook just about any
contraption you want to your phone line in the US. The phone company
would get suspicious and may send a technician out to investigate, but
they couldn't charge you on anything if they found out you were physically
messing with the line.
And considering that their property ends at the 'demarc' box - typically
on the exterior of the house - it would seem unlikely that you would need
to admit him.
