How about Krytrons?
Well, OK, but krytrons are a special breed (used to give something a *big*
whack of current, like laser tubes and exploding bolts).
Bad idea for a computer, as krytrons have a very limited life - only
10000 to 25000 firings. With the wrong bit of software, a krytron based
computer would kill itself in a matter of moments.
And I still stand by the word - I have never "seen" a cold cathode
submini tube. I don't have any krytrons!
