That *is* an excellent question, particularly for archivists. How many
packages out there record information such as parity (on many drives in
both 7 and 9 track formats, for example, it's perfectly possible to
change the frame parity), ID bursts, gap length, etc.?
Most of the stuff that I've seen concerns itself with the data and not
the physical characteristics.
