I admire their tenacity and unwillingness to accept the fact that
it is highly unlikely the software has survived. I've jousted these
windmills for decades and mostly feel indifference, since the only
reason people get excited is because the Crays looks cool.
If SGI wouldn't have made the conscious decision to destroy the
Cray archive they might have an easier time of it, though the same
thing happened to their archives when they died.
I'm more interested in the B 5500 work being done, which gets no
press at all.
