I know that the 1488/1489 combo was popular, but

reasoning was, but we didn't run into any popped 7515x parts that I can
remember.
How well did those withstand a "centronics" parallel printer being plugged
into the serial port (with a gender changer?)?
Well, the 75150 datasheet says that it can withstand (indefinitely)
applied short-circuit low-impedance voltages of +/- 25V.
The 154, similarly is rated for input voltages of =/-25V.
So, I guess the answer is probably "yes".
