you're likely to get some smearing and artifacts even with that. NTSC
TVs simply aren't designed for that much luminance resolution.
On older NTSC TVs, there is a lowpass filter to remove the color carrier
from the luminance, so even 40 column displays wind up
fuzzy, and 80
column are completely unreadable.
