Permits, inspections, codes all make for putting up anything more
than a meter tall very expensive. Out here in Oregon, the cheapest
structure is a "pole barn"; essentially large creosote-soaked poles
sunk into the ground, then usually sheathed and roofed in steel.
Since it's viewed as an agricultural building, a basic form ifiled
with the county is the only requirement. If one lives in a
development, CCR's (Codes, covenants and restrictions) may apply to
anything more than the color of your doormat.
