No and yes. Most of the cassette schemes were either FM or FSK
and both required a carrier to establish sync before the data.

and in some ways similar.
Yes, but as my message stated, and as you can hear in the
audio sample the sender provided, this tape has carrier between
packets of data, every few seconds. I'm familiar with sync
tone before a long block of data, but not this case.
