But not practical -- "easy" in a memory array is really code for
low parts count/high reliability.
But you're right, it would solve the read problem and also make it
a dual-port memory!
One might even keep down the part count by coating the outside of the
tubes with photoresistor or even selenium...
Photodiodes are rather too modern.
