We get that a lot with museum donations - people want to be able to say
whether the item works or not when they offer it to us, so they turn it on
even if they know nothing about computers.
"It did work but then the smoke came out - anyway, do you want it?" is quite
common...
(normally just caps thankfully. The really annoying ones are when the media
gets trashed!)
