Al, Bitsavers does not have manuals for either the
Dysan Model 450 (5 1/4" drives" or Model 850 (8" drives) online. I do have
an original Model 450 manual if you need scans. (I know, I still owe you
VG schematic scans.)
It would be nice to add those. That reminds me I need to dump the firmware from the Dysan
analyzers that I have.
I've been thinking of a small project to make a serial interface to drive the pins of
a 50 or 34 pin interface to
do useful things like set head, go to track, 'wiggle' across a couple of tracks,
etc. to do all the things except actually
reading the data off the head. That separates all the drive housekeeping from the data
recovery, which can be done
any number of ways depending on the kind of disk drive that you have (floppy vs. MFM vs.
ESDI hard disk for example).
Well, ESDI is a little different because of the serial bad block data, etc. but you get
the idea.
