It's been a long time, but we had a Stearns in Santa Clara (courtesy of
Neil). ISTR that it had one (1) ISA slot as well. Or am I thinking of
another sort-of PC?

Could one really call the Sanyo MBC-500 series "PC Compatible"?
We had to write special code for Quarkware BBS for my friend's Epson
QX-10 with an MS-DOS card because it didn't like our assembly system
timer... and I don't think the standard code for talking to the modem
through the serial port worked correctly either. Similar things for
WBBS and the Sony mentioned above...
