You don't use the WD40 as a lubricant. You use it as a solvent, on the disassembled
eject mechanism to dissolve the old grease. Then you rinse it out with isopropyl alcohol.
The eject mechanism can be completely removed from the drive - but not totally
disassembled, as some parts are riveted together. You can, however, remove just the one
side (the part that attaches to the eject motor) from the rest of the mech, as this is
where it always gets frozen. A good soaking in WD40 to dissolve the grease, followed by a
rinse in alcohol will de-crud it nicely.
WD40 is a terrible lubricant, but it's a fantastic (and easy to get) solvent.
