Just pack them upside down, base up. They ship by UPS and USPS well that way
and movers tend to be more (not much more) careful with each carton.

True - damage to the base (or the area supported by the base) seems quite
common on large monitors. I've already removed most of the bases for
storage purposes, so I'll likely leave them off for shipment, as well.
