Yes
Those were used in a series of Olivetti "Word Processors" - basically
smart typewriters - in 81-82 timeframe. They allowed you to save
typed documents complete with embedded formatting to the disk for
later printing/editing. Low end models stored what was
typed. IIRC, the high end model has a small fluorescent character
display of some.. 20 characters that would allow you to scroll
through the doc without actually printing it.
