I guess I was being too clever with that post. What I trying to express
was my dislike of magnetic tape and floppies. Both require the media
to be in contact with the head to work. Magnetic and optical rigid disks
do not.
I need to take another close look at the specs, but I was under the
impression that MTBF for modern servo-driven tape formats far exceeded
that of even the best hard disks.
Granted RAID changes the equation, and I'm not enough of a statistician to
factor that in.
