It can be done, but you generally need the appropriate card and socket
services software for the hardware in your laptop. Typically, this
would have been supplied with the laptop (installed on the hard disk
and/or on floppies).
If you don't have those, but you do have a parallel port, you might
find it easier to use something like a Xircom parallel-port Ethernet
adapter.
