We were deep in the cold war at the time and a lot of
mis-direction was being employed, I have always
thought there was a tube based system that evolved between the 650 and the transistorized
7070.
That was the 785 - a machine only on paper (it never got so far as to
get any circuitry). It turned into the 7070.
