SCSI3 (SCSI68) connector on the back...
Did you add a SCSI50 to SCSI68 adapter or your P03 has a different
connector on the back?
I own a similar cable, but it has a VHDC connector, it's for a PS2 95,
but the termination it's the same... can't forget that ugly brick ;)
oops, my mistake, sorry about that, you are quite correct 68-pin is needed.
I referenced the wrong cable, it seems I have two cables, see this
picture, the cable is the one to the right:

and looking at my notes, you are also correct the SCSI ID should be
set to #1 for external tape. I used no-additional-terminator either.
Also in my notes it seems the tape appeared as TAP02 too (TAP01 was in
the list but not detected).
