Oh, heck--bad Chinese capacitors are showing up in new gear too. I
just picked up a couple of HP LCD monitors (circa 2007-2008). Both
had bulgy filter caps in the power supply. Replaced with new ones
(Nichicons), the monitors work fine.
I've seen the same thing in lots of other gear as well. I wonder how
much of it is discarded before its time.
