The Russian comment is that if someone here does speak
russian it would be
possible to get Russian hosting in Russia which would prevent us from having
to deal with US copyright issues and thus be able to upload whatever we want
Just to be clear - I completely disagree with this sentiment.
So far, our approach has been to ask nicely where possible, and to take down
anything that's posted if a copyright holder objects. My comments regarding
possibly not making the archive public were in line with the latter, and
finding appropriate ways to preserve material that can't be made public. No
matter what "we want", if the owner of material doesn't want it made
publically
available, we must honor that (and we should honor that).
