If the drive was indeed a 5000E, it's supposed to be able to tell the
difference between DC300XL and DC600XL media automagically and adjust
write current. So you might try a DC600XL tape if you get the thing
going--they shouldn't be hard to find.
I'd have to find a drive first, then fiddle around with getting it
working. I don't have a working S100 system.
