Unless my memory has completely failed me, some microprocessor
prototypes were first done up in wirewrap before going to silicon.
And there were plenty of wirewrapped backplanes.
Wasn't it WECo who pioneered wire-wrap in the 1950s?
There was also a sort of "stitched wire" fabrication method. I can't
for the life of me remember the name of it, however.
