What is everyone else doing for this?
I use an
old 8-port terminal server that supports TCP/IP out of its own
EPROMs. It can be configured for "reverse telnet". I.e. you
$ telnet octopus 2003
and get a connection to port #3 of the terminal server. It even
understands a telnet-break command and turns it into a serial break.
I think most of the later DEC terminal servers can do this as well.
At least some variants of the DECserver 700 and 90.
