The last two times I crossed the border at Blaine, WA with a car load

Canadian guys about why I was driving there to meet total strangers I
met on the net to pick up old computer junk. That was 3 or so years
ago. Maybe it's worse now.
I think this is very much a "YMMV" scenario but that was almost
exactly my experience last December, crossing at Detroit and returning
to the US at Sarnia. Coming in we were detained for nearly an hour,
car searched inside, out and under, personal effects turned over, cell
phone and email searched for the word "Canada" and questioned in
multiple ways on the nature of our visit.
On the way back in, Element packed to the gills with ccmp and boxes,
we told the honest truth to the border agent, he asked the same thing
everyone else asks, "what do you DO with all that junk??" and we were
waved through.
YMMV.
