Yeah, Supermicro makes very nice motherboards and other products; I just
use so many of their JBOD enclosures at work, it's what I associate them
with.

Any MTI box I ever encountered was just a "dumb" enclosure... no smarts...
Supermicro builds their own cards and motherboards.
MTI bought SF2, and got into the RAID biz.
