My guess is that 68000 as a name had a lot to do

I have been told several times that the 4004 was named after being the
equivalent of 4004 transistors. I don't believe that. But what WAS the
origin of the name?
I have notes on this somewhere. In fact, I posted about this to BACCL
after my meeting with Ted Hoff in 1998. It was basically just the number
the marketing folks at Intel assigned to it. I believe the part number
being 4004 and the microprocessor being a 4-bitter was sheer coincidence.
I could go back and find the message if it's of that much interest.
