IIRC, the 68000 (and 68010, but not later chips) could do 6800-like bus
cycles if you asseted the right pin at the start of the bus cycle, and
thus could use allthe 6800 peripheal chips (and for that matter the 6500
ones). And many of those were a lot nicer than the Intel peripheral
chips, every one of which seems ot have at least one misfeature...
Incidentally, I am _still_ wondering why HP used the 8250 serial chip i
nthe HP9000 RS232 interface (98626) and the internal modem for the
Inetgral. A 68681 would have been a much more logical choice, and was in
fact used on the Inegral RS232 board.
