I think they're set on delayed spin-up. They don't "come on" till the
controller signals them. Most PC controllers expect the disk to spin on
powerup.
Well, it's 'whacked' -- i poped the
cylinder off of the switch part, and
turned the switch by hand (verified, it doesn't boot when it should be in
'Secure' mode). Still, not a drop out of either of the two serial ports.
I've checked them with a RatShack RS-232 led box, and everthing's
'wired
up' correctly it seems. Even tried two different
null-modems with them.
Right now, the last thing that the LED display shows is '522'. (which just
stays on there, doesn't disappear)
Ah. Service mode != Secure mode
You need to be in the Service position. And did you physically pull
the graphics adapter?
522 says /etc/inittab is incorrect, or that the configuration manager
has been invoked with conflicting options. Did you change modes during
boot?

I've got a 1-9: FC 2768 'POWER Gt3i Graphics
Subsystem'. Any chance that
a PS/2 XGA card will work? I think I can get one of those, but I'm
doubting it'll work because of microcode...
Nice graphics card. An XGA card won't work. Back to the dumb
terminal idea, till you find a cable & a display.
Fun, huh? Did I mention that every RS/6000 I've ever owned required a
token blood sacrifice (MY blood, not a chicken) before it would operate
properly?
