I was able to recover all the data and tranfer it to linerless
On the other hand, I've cleaned problem floppies with alcohol and had
the oxide wipe right off the substrate.
I've even tried low-temp "baking" as performed with problem magtapes.
It didn't help.
Soap and water is really the safest cleaning agent. If the disk is
going to flake, it's going to flake.
One of these days, I'm going to try wiping a water-based lacquer on
one of the flakes and see if I can get at least one good read out of
it.
Certainly the best way to recover is to use som sort of non-contact
reading. Maybe adapt an old Bernoulli mech?
