Even though I agree that RPN calculators are superior
to algebraic ones, I think that Ken's message was thoroughly condescending and rude.
RPN vs algebraic is a matter of opinion, not a law of nature or an indicator of personal
worth.
I will not comment about the niceness of Ken's reply, but I will
comment that some of it is just hopelessly outdated. People in
business - lawyers, bankers, real estate agents, etc. - do not really
use calculators anymore, RPN or otherwise. They have not for the past
10 or 15 years. The laptop computer has well matured, and these days
the first thing they do when meeting is take out their machines and
get all appropriate documents, spreadsheets, and applications
launched. The calculators stay behind, buried in the bottom drawer of
their desks.
Personally, if I need to calculate something, I will just use what is
handy. Some of use can actually use RPN or algebraic, and not feel the
need to preach.
