college students today can
 program in machine langauage or even Fortran?) 
 How many will ever need to? If you're a college student studying computer
science and have never
programmed in machine/assembler, turn in your degree, it wasn't worth it.

Same goes for non comp sci students, but instead of machine/assembler... any
computer programming language at all.
