I suspect that it is some sort of rom, but if anyone
has a better
explanation I would be interested.
It's marked as containing microcode. The seller describes "specially
wound ceramic rods", so I'd guess it's conceptually similar to rope
memory. Looks like this is one of at least two such units to make a
full word, as the bit planes are numbered 16-31. Other markings on the
cards suggest it's from a Siemens System 4004. Teh internetz say a
4004 is a rebadged Spectra 70 (IBM 360 clone) they bought from RCA.
