There are many versions of telegraph signaling codes.
The main one is the code as (was/is) used by shipboard operators.
It was defined by international treaty. I have the book somewhere.
Japanese code for example was totally different as their language is based
on ideographs.
So any country that had a different alphabet would either have to use the
normal Latin characters or come up with their own system Lots did!

Please avoid all characters that can't be encoded
in MORSE code.
_Which_ Morse code? The one originally used by Mr Samuel Morse is quite
differnt to the one used today. And I thought there were dot/dash
encodings for many quite odd chracters.
