You're forgetting that PA-RISC is also in the same position. It's called
"legacy", isn't it?
Well, maybe that's harsh. But it is still another
sad day for computing.
But was the HP-3000 really cool? I know nothing at all about the system, apart
from that it's a business-oriented mainframe or
mini range.
