The microcode itself was...wait for it...
Two large circuit boards populated with diodes! The microcode itself
was "hard wired' in diodes.
Question is: Is the diode ROM "firmware"?
I would say yes - well, if I unleash my full pickiness, I would say the
diode ROM is not firmware but the data it holds is.
I do, however, consider it close enough to the line that I'd listen
rather than just laughing if someone were to argue the other way.
