Thanks for the lead on the Rockwell PPS-4.
Does anyone know where I can find architectural info on it,
and/or a die photo? It seems to be quite rare, and there
is almost no information about this chip [family] on the web.
The PPS-4 has a bit of a cult status among coin-op gamers as it was
used in Gottlieb pinball machines. There's even a fellow on eBay
who'd turned it into an art exhibit. See item 260202507832.
Functioning PPS-4 chips command a pretty high premium among pinball
restoration folks.
Another early chip not mentioned much is the PPS-8, released at about
the same time as the 8080. I believe that Diablo's first dot-matrix
printer used it. (ISTR, that "PPS" stood for "Parallel Processing
System")
