Surely they didn't use the 6809 for the 3D calculations, did they?

hidden-line removal, etc.) but they still seem a bit much for a
6809...
No, the 3D calculations were done by the so called "math box". This
is essentially a math co-processor made up of several (4?) AMD bit-
slice CPUs.
Wow...I'd love to get my hands on the design info for that! There
must've been some seriously bright people working on those systems.
