If you want real Neanderthal views, I don't think
that the X / gui
 interface is useful.  Real heads down data entry still doesn't work as
 fast on anything PC unless it is emulating a good old fashioned terminal. 
Since an awful lot of what I do on a computer involves text entry
(writing docuemntion, programming, etc), I am perfectly happly with a
'green screen' text display.
I am very used to the 'virtual consoles' of linux, toggling between text
screens. In fact when I use a windowng syastem, I often prefer to have
the windos maximised, and then to toggle between them, rather than having
several visible at a time. I guess it's what I am used to.
