I'd actually expect the electrolytics to be getting dodgey after 20+ years.
But I want to know *why* the cap smoked first.
Sometimes they just seem to go. This was a common
occurrence w/the Tandy 2000's p/s. It could be a
faulty design. Regardless of why it happened, if you
fix the problem, your p/s will work again. For a time
anyway. It might not be worth worrying about.
