I'd keep it as a typewriter. They're
great machines.
Seconded. The Selectric (Correcting Selectric II) is my favorite
typewriter. A bit too heavy to be considered portable, but solid and
great feel.
You'd need to recreate all of the drive and decode mechanism - it
wouldn't be worth it unless you were very interested in recreating a
Selectric Terminal Typewriter rather than just having a printing
terminal.
Hunter Thompson carried one. If you can pick it up or it has a handle,
it's portable.
