Indeed. I kind of like the IR keyboard and it seems to

what the press let on, but it does seem to eat batteries (at least the
There was an IBM cable to link the IR keyboard (at least the chicklet
one) to the system unit. It carried the keybaord data (so you no longer
had to be within IR range) nad also a power feed so that the keyboard ran
off the main PSU, not its internal battery. I think there's enough data
in the TechRef to make up said cable if anyone is caraxy enough to want
to try.
