I'm a fan of Xyplex MaxServer 1600/1620/1640s. They're about $20 on
ebay, boot off of TFTP, and connect with 10BaseT when you use the
appropriate AUI converter (built-in on the 1620/1640).
I have instructions etc on how to get them set up if you go that route.
The only limitation is that they only go up to 38,400bps I believe, and
don't support encrypted protocols, but for $20 they're pretty decent.
